1. 6. 8 Round 3 - 17th September, 2006 Waitakere 19. 23. 137 defeated Manurewa 1. 2. 8 Right from the first quarter whistle, both teams showed they were there to play and it was a tight first encounter with no one taking control. The rest of the match was a one sided affair with Waitakere taking full control from the centre and capitalising on every position. In dry conditions, the Magpies showed their class by producing some outstanding running play, and it showed on the score card. Stand out players included some fantastic marks from Talfer from Rewa. From Waitakere the young star Matt Hacket showed his talent, and there was some excellent forward play from John Maling, and the Rattenbury brothers, Andrew and David. In the centre of the ground, Andre Jay had a fantastic game, getting involved in everything and kicking a couple of handy goals. So far it has been a great start to the year for the Magpies and we look forward to their next match up against the consistency of University. Reserve Grade: Waitakere 9. 11. 65 def. Manurewa 2. 2. 14 Round 2 - 10th September, 2006 University 13. 8. 86 defeated Manurewa 5. 8. 38 University managed to get the early break with quick goals to Taungakiavia and Taverna. The sloppy conditions made the going hard work, but the skill level remained high and a number of impressive marks were pulled in by both teams. Coultard kept Manurewa in the game with massive 70 meter goal late in the 2nd. Manurewa came out more determined after the break and neutralised Uni's attacking players. Combined with inaccurate kicking, the 3rd quarter was a goaless, end to end affair. Uni were able to gain the upper hand again in the last to run away 8 goal winners.
